On Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 10:00am, the Republican Party will be holding Precinct Caucuses statewide. Here in Pacific County, for ease of attendance, we hold two pooled Precinct Caucuses, one in North County and one in South County.
Precinct Caucuses are the first step in determining how our Republican Party operates and selects which candidates to endorse. The Precinct Caucuses are where delegates are elected (along with Precinct Committee Officers - PCOs) to attend the Pacific County Convention. At the Pacific County Convention delegates have input into what County Party does and elects delegates to the Washington State Republican Party Convention. There will be two important tasks at the WSRP Convention this year. First is to elect delegates to the National Republican Convention. These National delegates will vote for our 2024 Presidential candidate (Washington's delegates will be obligated to vote for the winner based on the Presidential Primary held on March 12th, at least for the first vote). The second is new this year - since the passage of the Top Two voting system, Republicans have not had a Republican Primary to select their candidate for State positions. At the State Convention this year, delegates will vote to endorse a candidate for the 9 Statewide offices, 10 U.S. Congressional seats (except for our own 3rd District, where Joe Kent has already been endorsed by the Party) and the U.S. Senate Race. Since candidates who wish to get the Republican Party endorsement will be asked to promise not to run if they do not get it, it is hoped that the Republican Party will be able to unify behind one candidate much earlier than the August Primary.
